The Choir of Saint Peter's

The rich music programme at St. Peter's Cathedral includes Gregorian chant (Psalms, Office Hymns, Mass Settings and the Propers), a capella and accompanied motets and mass settings from the Renaissance through to the present day, and a large repertoire of hymns from The English Hymnal.
While the position of organist and choir director at St. Peter's Cathedral is currently vacant, our precentor, Prof. Carl Mathis, is directing the choir, which is comprised of sixteen dedicated singers, including trained and untrained musicians.  They rehearse once a week and sing the main Sunday morning Eucharist throughout the year.  Major festivals and holy days are celebrated with Solemn Evensong and Benediction, often followed by a parish social event.  Special services include the Advent Carol Service on the First Sunday in Advent, and a full range of Holy Week services, including the Easter Vigil.  Each year, on Ascension Day, the choir sings a Latin Mass, alternating year about between a Renaissance setting and a Classical one, the latter of which is accompanied by a small orchestra.
During the interim, Gloria Jay, our assistant organist, is accompanying the services with help from Susan Stensch and Ann Francis.
